The chemical industry led the entry of inflows into the region
Foreign productive investment grew by 886% in Asturias in 2019 compared to 2018. It is the fourth position at national level in terms of annual increase, according to data made public by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
Specifically, gross investment (discounting Foreign Securities Holding Entities) increased in our region from 11 to 117 million euros. Asturias increased its inflow thanks to significant investment from the Chemical Industry, specifically the Artificial and Synthetic Fibre Manufacturing subsector, whose investment in the first quarter of 2019 represented an injection of 103 million Euros into the region. It is followed by Wholesale Trade and Programming and Consultancy sectors.
With respect to Spain as a whole, foreign productive investment fell by 54.8% in 2019, to 22,376 million euros gross. This represents a drop of half compared to the investment generated in 2018, a year in which a historical maximum of 49,549 million euros was set, which was almost double that of 2017.
In relation to the rest of the Autonomous Communities, the Community of Madrid is in first place in terms of gross productive investment in 2019 with 13,702 million euros, 67.5% less than in 2018. It is followed by Cataluña, Castilla León and Andalucía.
