ArcelorMittal is the main world producer of iron and steel. Asturias is home to the only iron and steel plant in Spain where the entire steel production process is undertaken.
ArcelorMittal produces 5 million tonnes of steel in Asturias. Each year
it produces approximately a fourth of the steel produced in Spain.
The company has an acclaimed R&D&I Centre inAsturias.

Asturiana de Zinc is the largest electrolytic zinc plant in the world (productive capacity of 510,000 tonnes each year, 47.4 % from the Glencore group) and one of the most efficient on a world scale thanks to the development of its own technology.
The Bayer acetylsalicylic acid plant in Asturias is where 100 % of the active
ingredient for Aspirin is produced. Some 200 million units of aspirin are consumed around the world each day.
Additionally, and as a result of its high levels of competitiveness, experience and quality, the Bayer plant in Asturias, plans to take on the worldwide production of an active ingredient for an anti-parasitic drug for pets.
The determining factors for basing its facilities in the Valnalón Industrial City (Langreo) were the installation costs and the availability of highly-qualified local HR.

has 2 production centres:
The Sevares Plant. Manufacture of infant nutrition products.
The Gijon Plant. Manufacture of tinned and sterilised dishes, including the preparation of the well-known Litoral fabada, with a history dating back some 60 years.
A leading company in the manufacture via sintering of components and systems for vehicle gearboxes.
PMG, a leader in technology, has strengthened its R&D unit in Asturias
and its clients include practically all the major automobile manufacturers.
PMG Asturias has been awarded with the “General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award” prize for the excellent quality of its products.
Saint-Gobain has an industrial centre in Asturias, where it develops glass for construction (Saint-Gobain Glass) and glass for automotive purposes (Saint-Gobain Sekurit).
The company has a Research Centre in Asturias (Aviles R&D Centre) which has worked on projects such as the development of glass for solar energy and highly innovative glass fusion procedures.
In 2003, the German multinational, which currently employs 35 highly-specialised professional, gave particular value to the availability of qualified personnel, as well as to existing infrastructures for their installation in the Principality of Asturias Business Park (Aviles).
