The chocolate group subsidiary saw a 30% rise in production over the last year.
The Lacasa group, an Aragonese company founded over 150 years ago, is one of the main market leaders in the production of chocolate bars, nougat, children’s sweets and chocolates.
In the 90s, the Lacasa family acquired the Asturian-based Chocolates del Norte, owners of the La Cibeles brand located in Meres, Siero. It currently has 115 employees and year upon year it has seen its production levels rise.
Investment increases innovation and employment
The Lacasa group is set to invest a total of 1.5 million euros into its Asturian subsidiary, after it closed 2015 with an increase in production on the previous year, representing the fifth year running of increased manufacturing levels.
The continuous investments from the chocolate parent firm have bolstered the factory at Meres, which has used it for innovation and new production lines such as modern robots and packaging systems, and process manipulation.
With regards to employment levels, the La Cibeles factory also continues to progressively expand its staff base.
All this investment is a result of the Company’s favourable position in the national market and the increasing internal and external demand.
The Asturian factory is the exclusive producer of some of Lacasa’s products
A large number of sweet products are manufactured at the Siero chocolate plant, including chocolate bars, nougats and chocolates. Furthermore, recently instant soluble cocoa products have been added to the list, one of Lacasa’s latest novelties.
Chocolates del Norte are unusual in that they are the only company within the group to produce chocolate umbrellas, chocolate bars and cocoa paste. Specifically, they produce 12 million chocolate umbrellas and 11 million chocolate bars each year.
An Asturian factory that exports chocolate around the world
Chocolates del Norte, from the Lacasa group, is the La Cibeles supplier, among other brands. Its production plant is located in Meres, Siero.
The Meres factory was constructed in 1969 and currently exports to countries in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
