Asturias
has once again established itself as a top-tier film destination with the
shooting of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping in the
municipalities of Somiedo and Teverga. This new production joins a list of
international projects that have chosen the region as their set, consolidating
its reputation in the audiovisual industry.
A Natural Landscape That Attracts the Big Screen
The Somiedo Natural Park declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the Montegrande Beech Forest in Teverga have been chosen as the locations to recreate the setting of the 50th edition of the Hunger Games. The beauty and uniqueness of this landscape have captured the filmmakers’ attention. They have found in them the perfect backdrop for their story sharing videos and images with their thousands of followers on social media accounts.
Economic and Cultural Impact
The filming of this large-scale production is having a significant impact on local economy, generating employment and opportunities for local providers and local services (hospitality, catering, transport…). In addition to this, it promotes screen tourism which refers to travellers visiting the locations where films, series or documentaries have been filmed.
From
previous experiences, such as the filming of The Fantastic Four in Oviedo,
starring Pedro Pascal, it is known that the production generated more than 150
jobs, involved over 600 extras from Asturias, and brought an expenditure of
more than 2.5 million euros to the city.
The international projection of Asturias as a film destination is reinforced by media coverage and the interest generated by these shoots. The presence of renowned actors and the uniqueness of the landscape have put Asturias on the map of the global audiovisual industry. With the premiere of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping scheduled for November 2026, Asturias is expected to continue attracting film productions and tourists eager to discover its locations.
