Lights, Camera, Action: Asturias strengthens its positioning as an Audiovisual Investment Hub with La Favrica

The Government of Asturias is reinforcing its commitment to the audiovisual industry through a strategy that combines financing, business development, and specialized training. La Favrica project, presented in Oviedo at an event organized by the SEKUENS Agency, aims to position the region as a leading hub for the sector.

The event was attended by the President of Asturias, Adrián Barbón; the Regional Ministers of Science, Industry and Employment, Borja Sánchez, and of Culture, Language Policy and Sports, Vanesa Gutiérrez; the Mayor of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli; and the Executive Director of the SEKUENS Agency, David González.

Strategic boost for the Audiovisual Sector

The strategy seeks to consolidate a model that encompasses all stages of the audiovisual process, from idea development to production, post-production, and distribution.

During his speech, David González highlighted the sector’s role as an economic and technological driver: “It is a strategic industry, with cross-cutting impact and the capacity to generate added value across multiple activities,” he stated.

New Financing Instruments

The development of this ecosystem is based on financial tools specifically designed for the audiovisual sector. In this context, the regional government plans to allocate €8 million from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) and will launch Asturias Media Capital, an instrument aimed at audiovisual companies that will combine financing and equity participation to support the creation and expansion of projects from Asturias.

Training as the foundation of the Model

The promotion of training is a key pillar of this strategy. In this regard, access to infrastructure will be facilitated, and initiatives and business projects linked to training will be supported with the aim of creating a base of qualified professionals adapted to the current needs of the sector.

This commitment to training seeks to ensure that the growth of the audiovisual sector in Asturias is underpinned by specialized profiles across all stages of the creative process.

A meeting point for the ecosystem

All these initiatives were presented in La Favrica, an event that brought together representatives from the audiovisual sector at both regional and national levels, including producers, creators, investors, technology companies, and training experts.

The event provided a platform to discuss the challenges facing an industry undergoing profound transformation, driven by technological innovation and the rise of digital platforms, while also fostering connections among key stakeholders.

The Oviedo Philharmonic Foundation Orchestra, conducted by Pedro Ordieres, performed a concert featuring soundtracks from contemporary Spanish audiovisual productions, with works by composers such as Mario Gosálvez Blanco (Camino), Federico Jusid (The Secret in Their Eyes), Luis Ivars (Captain Thunder and the Holy Grail), Ana Vázquez Silva (Gordon Retrato), Zacarías M. de la Riva (Tad the Lost Explorer and the Emerald Tablet), Juan Bardem (The Picasso Gang), Manel Santisteban (Three Steps Above Heaven and My Life Is Going On, Money Heist), and Iván M. Lacámara (Money Heist), highlighting the role of music as an essential component of the industry.
