ArcelorMittal Global R&D Spain

The ArcelorMittal group was born from the merger of Arcelor and Mittal Steel in 2006. ArcelorMittal Asturias consists of two factories, Avilés and Gijón, and is the only integral steel plant in Spain. The ArcelorMittal Asturias plant, with an annual production capacity of around five million tonnes of steel, manufactures flat and coated products (heavy plate, galvanised coil and tinplate) and long products (rail and wire rod). Located in Gijón, Global R&D Spain’s research activity revolves around sustainability and decarbonisation, digitalisation, and production processes that generate sustainable steels. With an investment of 33 million euros in 2022, it has a workforce of around 300 people to provide solutions to the needs of any ArcelorMittal plant.
