«Asturias, your business location», un foro en busca de inversiones de empresas de China en nuestra región

This event led by IDEPA and CCINCE tried to connect the investment strategies of Chinese companies interested in Spain with the opportunities offered by our region. IDEPA – Invest in Asturias delivers customised attention to each project of investment.

The Economic Development Agency of the Principality of Asturias (IDEPA) and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Investment in Spain (CCINCE) held on April, 14th., “Asturias, your business location”, an online seminar with representatives of Chinese companies based in Spain, belonging to different productive sectors with potential interest in investing in our region.

This special event was held within the framework of the Investment Attraction Strategy promoted by the Regional Ministry of Industry, Employment and Economic Promotion and led by IDEPA.

In “Asturias, your business location”, we talked about the main reasons to invest in Asturias. The Regional Minister of Industry, Employment and Economic Promotion, Enrique Fernández, stressed the importance for Asturias of the collaboration between the Regional Government and the CCINCE “to connect the investment strategies of Chinese companies interested in Spain and the investment opportunities offered by our region”.

Fernández pointed out that Asturias is one of the most dynamic and attractive European industrial regions as part of the Vanguard Initiative

Asturias as a place of opportunities for investment and business location

During the conference, the Manager Director of IDEPA, Eva Pando, introduced Asturias as a place of investment opportunities and pointed out that “our region has a highly competitive environment, a strategic location, the talent of its people, an innovative ecosystem, the support of the Administration through financing adapted to each project and an extraordinary quality of life”.

Pando introduced two successful cases of a strong commitment to AsturiasJuan Carlos Menéndez, Global Product Head Moving Walks at TK Elevator, showed the deep footprint of this long-established, leading company in Asturias: it counts on the TK Elevator Innovation Center in Gijón, which places our region on the world map of innovation, and TK Escalator Norte and TK Airport Systems, both plants in Mieres that recently awarded a great number of projects.

Success Stories: TK Elevator and Reny Picot

Menéndez pointed out the talent derived from the University, an ecosystem made of a lot of companies to cooperate and the strong Asturian Government support as some of the advantages that a company can find to invest in Asturias.

The other successful case introduced in “Asturias, your business location” was Reny Picot. Javier Suárez, COO & General Plants Manager Reny Picot, remembered how Industrias Lacteas Asturianas, S.A. (owner of the brand), became one of the first Spanish dairy producers approved by the Government of China for the manufacture of infant milk powder.

Suárez talked about the high level of university education in Asturias as a factor for the improvement of industrial processes. And he remarked on the strong cooperation between ILAS – RenyPicot and companies and actors in the environment like TSK, Izertis, Intermark IT or Idonial.

The day was closed by the President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Investment in Spain (CCINCE), Bo Wang, General Manager of China Construction Bank in Spain, who expressed the Chamber’s total willingness to collaborate with Asturias.

About the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Investment in Spain (CCINCE)

The CCINCE, founded in July 2012 under the leadership of the Chinese Embassy in Spain, is the only bilateral Chamber of commerce between China and Spain approved by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and registered with the Spanish Ministry of Interior.

The 62 members of the Chamber cover a wide range of sectors such as finance, telecommunications, transport (air and maritime), iron and steel, hospitality, as well as renewable energy, household appliances, insurance, sports and food sectors.

Its main objective is to promote economic and business exchanges between China and Spain. Since its creation, the Chamber has been committed to fostering economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, providing professional and comprehensive services to its members and constantly strengthening in-depth exchanges and interactions between members and Spanish entities in different fields, such as economy, trade, investment, etc.

It is important to note that, of the 62 members, the Economic Development Agency of the Principality of Asturias (IDEPA) is one of the eight honorary members.
