The opening of the Pajares Bypass completes a set of leading connections for people and business in Asturias

Grand opening on November 29th of the Pajares Bypass, the missing link for Asturias to complete a set of leading connections for people and business.

King Felipe VI, the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Government of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, took part in the opening of the Madrid-Asturias high-speed railway line through the Pajares Bypass.

It will considerably reduce travel times between Asturias and Madrid, and may also be used to transport goods.

This is the largest engineering project ever undertaken in Spain, completed by more than 5,000 professionals. It has required an investment of 4 billion euros and is 50 kilometres long, with twelve tunnels and ten viaducts.

The Pajares Bypass joins 5,044 km of roads, highways and expressways, the Asturias International Airport and the industrial ports of Gijón and Avilés in a collection of infrastructures that facilitate our region’s connections and businesses with the rest of Spain and international markets.

Asturias thus adds a new attraction for investment, in addition to the institutional support, the innovative ecosystem through the connection between the University of Oviedo, Technology Centres and the company, the large industrial land and roof available, or our competitive business environment.

And this opening is also a plus to attracting in Asturias qualified, young talent with a desire to gain quality of life.
